Types of Pains
We realize that our patients may suffer from pain for many different reasons. Our staff is experienced in addressing virtually every type of pain. You may experience pain after an automobile accident or a sports injury. After a fall or collision, you may feel pain due to a strain or fracture. Regardless of the type of pain you experience, we can help you find relief.
Our sophisticated diagnostics can identify the cause of your pain.
Many patients experience pain in their neck or back after an auto accident. The most commonly reported injury after a motor vehicle accident is whiplash. This can refer to a variety of injuries to the neck, the most common of which results from the snapping of the patient’s head forward and then back during impact. In addition to neck pain, whiplash symptoms include stiffness in the patient’s neck and shoulders, recurring headaches, and concussion-like symptoms, such as dizziness and ringing in the ears.
Back pain due to an auto accident most commonly occurs when a muscle is injured. Our experts will take digital x-rays to determine if your spine has suffered any damage. You may also suffer injuries to the tendons, ligaments, and nerves.
Sports injuries can range from a small sprain to a broken bone. Mild injuries such as strains, sprains, contusions, and cuts or scrapes will typically heal on their own. We recommend first trying the RICE method of treatment, which you can do at home. This stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. If, after a day or two of this treatment, your injury feels no better, or has worsened, come into one of our centers to have the cause of the pain diagnosed. Generally, these injuries require only rest and hot or cold packs for swelling. Some mild injuries might require a prescription for mild painkillers.
Serious sports injuries, such as broken bones and head injuries, will always require a doctor’s attention. Depending on the severity, we may refer you to the hospital for an overnight stay and observation.
Fractures and Bone Injuries
We can take digital x-rays to determine if a bone has been fractured or broken. Depending on the location and severity of the injury, we may offer treatment with a cast, or refer you to the hospital for surgery. Aside from intense pain with any pressure on the bone, you will likely experience swelling and bruising, as well as restricted movement. If you experience any of these symptoms, come see us immediately.
