Nose Bleeds and Sinusitis

Some people are more prone to nose bleeds than others, and the causes can often be quite benign. However, if a nose bleed lasts more than 20 minutes, this can be cause for concern. When the lining of the sinuses becomes swollen and inflamed, it can lead to sinusitis, a condition where the sinuses fill with fluid and create an ideal environment for the growth and spread of infection. Acute sinusitis is fairly short-lived, lasting less than a month in most cases. Subacute sinusitis, however, can last as long as two months. If you experience several bouts of sinusitis over and over again, you may be suffering from what is known as recurrent sinusitis. We can perform an accurate diagnosis and provide treatment during a visit to one of our walk-in centers.

Sore Throat

Sore throats are often caused by a bacterial or viral infection, or as the result of an injury or trauma to the throat. In these cases, irritants such as cigarette smoke and air pollution can make swallowing uncomfortable, or even painful. The most common bacterial infections of the throat are strep throat, epiglottitis, tonsillitis, and uvulitis, and these conditions may need to be treated with antibiotics. Most often, though, sore throats are caused by viruses, so antibiotics are not necessary. The skilled doctors at our walk-in center can diagnose the cause of your sore throat.

Ear Infections

An ear infection can occur when the eustachian tubes, which connect the ears to the back of the throat, are not draining properly. When the tubes are blocked, fluid can build up and create a breeding ground for infection. Babies and children are particularly prone to ear infections because their eustachian tubes do not work as efficiently as an adult's, making them more susceptible to clogging. Ear pain, general feelings of malaise, and temporary hearing loss are all common symptoms of an ear infection. If an ear infection is causing you discomfort, please visit one of our walk-in centers for a professional diagnosis.
